Finding Writing Ideas
As a writer, I am always looking for writing ideas. Be it for blogging, stories, or even journaling, I ALWAYS need new ideas. Sometimes, it can feel like everything has already been done, but no one can write a story the way you can. Here are some ways that I get ideas for writing:
1. Writing Prompts
Yes, I look up writing prompts, usually on Tumblr, but on other websites as well. You don’t have to follow to prompt to a T, but I use them to get the ideas flowing before putting words on a page.
2. Dreams
Sometimes I use dreams to jump-start a piece of writing. I have really out there dreams, as I’m sure many people do, and I use them as a baseline for a story and try to come up with things that could have happened to cause the situation that I dreamed about or what could have happened in the dream if I didn’t wake up.
3. Other people’s writing
Now, I’m not saying to steal other people’s work or their plot. But sometimes a quote or a character will give me ideas for another story. I can’t use that quote or anything from the other person’s story, because that would be unethical, but I can use my own ideas from a story, poem, or piece of artwork to bring a new piece to life.
4. Definitions or name meanings
Sometimes using meanings for words can strike up the idea for a story, or using a name meaning to create a story for a character is also interesting, because the ways to come up with a story are endless. It’s like a prompt but less direction and more vague which leaves you to your imagination.
That all I have for you all today! I hope you enjoyed.
Have a rosy day,
Amanda Rose
